Ultrasound Testing

Ultrasound machines use very high frequency sound waves, emitted from a transducer which is placed in contact with the mother’s belly. The sound waves scan the baby and are reflected back to the inducer. This information can then be made into a picture.

This procedure is perfectly safe, but be warned, the conducting gel will be cold and wet. You will not feel anything at all from the ultrasound waves.

Ultrasonography is used for diagnosis and confirmation of early pregnancy, determination of gestational age, assessment of fetal size, diagnosis of fetal malformation, placental localization, multiple pregnancies, and in the case of vaginal bleeding

A special kind of ultrasound called transvaginal scanning can be done with a specially designed probe being place in the vagina of the patient. This method usually provides better images for patients who are obese, or are in the very early stages of pregnancy.

You have absolutely nothing to fear concerning ultrasound tests. They are safe, quick, easy, and generally non-invasive.
